I finally have some photos to show you of the building where the mother-baby center will be!
Archive for October, 2008
Today I officially became director of the mother-baby center. Am I hallucinating? I have to tell you about when i was a teen. My Official Dream was to be a nurse-midwife missionary in Russia and have huge house where girls in crisis pregnancy could live, get care, go to school, learn a trade, etc. In this Dream there was also a fuzzy husband and 12 kids. This was a VERY BIG house and there were lots of people. Every night for a long time I would kneel down before getting into bed and pray for the ladies who would stay at this house.
Fast forward to today. I’m in Ukraine, not Russia. There is a very well-defined husband and two kids (so far). There is a VERY BIG former-Communist-pioneer-camp building in the process of renovation: half of it will be used for ladies in crisis pregnancy, and the other half will be used for street kids being rehabilitated into home life. The third floor will be used for ophan graduates to transition into adult life. A rather lot of people! Lord willing, we’ll be living there as house parents/director. I am not a nurse or midwife (yet), but Lord willing, we will be offering midwifery care to our ladies.
I still shake my head in a daze sometimes. Is it real?
A name. We need a name for our home. I have thought thru many ideas, and for now I’m liking “Hope House” the best, and Jer. 29:11. Maybe you have a better idea for a name?
I’ll keep you posted. I will also try and post pictures of the camp building.
So many wonderful things happened while Doran and Tierney were here that i will make this a series of posts.
These photos are from our Monday-Tuesday trip to Cherkasy where they spoke from 5-9 each evening and Tuesday at 3, Tierney did a bunch of prenatals and Doran led/demonstrated/explained a Blessing God’s Way.
I will write more as in the coming days!
Nadya is my birth-partner-in-crime. She’s had three home births and is a huge advocate of home birth and birth change. Their doctors and birth choices in Cherkasy are very limited and not good. Nadya organized our time and speaking in Cherkasy. She invited ladies from many other churches. They have Doran’s great materials in their hands now!
More to come!
Yes, this is Vitaliy & I the last few nights, and probably Doran Richards and Tierney Dovan, too! (Tierney is not only a certified professional midwife, she is a marathon runner . . . and a mom of eight!) We are winding down on things to prepare for the two conferences–Kiev on the 3rd and 4th and Cherkasy on the 6th and 7th. Translation is done. Printing is done. Now we need to gather and buy a few more and haul them to the church.
Several wonderful blessings have been heaped on us! Widow’s Jar Ministries sent me four large boxes of gifts and crafts to use for the conferences! We now have great samples for moms, beautiful shawls, scarves, and clothing to give away, and several crafts to choose from–such special touches! Thank you!
Doran and Tierney are in the air as I type. They arrive here Thursday afternoon, and we are looking forward to our first evening together!
On a side note, I got a kitten today! Free and the girls LOVE him, especially Skyla. We’ll see how this goes; it’s rather like having another child in some ways, but i think we’ll stay on the positive side of this feline relationship. i never wanted a cat, honestly, but living in a small apartment and having long, freezing winters, i’m not about to get a dog that has to go outside every day. Cats are low-maintainance when it comes to that.
Will post pictures when i can!
